In the arrowhead region of northeast Minnesota, the first two days of October 2007 were overcast, damp, and at times misty and drizzly. I knew that rain was likely, but chose to travel there anyway, and was very glad that I made the trip. This exposure was made during light rain with one hand balancing my broad-brimmed heavy canvas hat on top of the tripod-mounted camera and the other hand on the cable release. The rain is not visible due to the slow exposure.

Its easy to imagine that you can shoot any time, any place. Well, I've sat out my share of days reading in the prone position in a tent, a day or more out in the wilderness, preferring not to subject my camera equipment to the whipping wind and rain and sleet outside. However, those extreme conditions don't "usually" last (although I did make six consecutive BWCAW trips which were dominated by rain and wind), and there are usually rewards for keeping with the program.
