The setting sun illuminates this new, rural house, designed by Christian Milaster. This unique house is not connected to the electrical grid. Electricity is provided by a windmill and stored in batteries. Soon the sun will provide additional electricity. Also, this house does not have a well, not is it connected to the nearby municipal water system of Lanesboro, MN. Water is provided by rain and is collected into three cisterns.

The house is heated by a wood-fired, masonry stove. This photograph was taken at sunset before a night when the temperature dropped to -23 degrees farenheit. The stove had been fired once by a single hot fire early in the morning, and the fire subsequently burned out. At the time the photograph was taken, the internal house temperature was 72 degrees farenheit.
