 | Notice the bright white lights on the left horizon. They resemble ballfield lights. In fact, they are keeping the Interstate 35W bridge collapse site lighted 24 hours per day during the period of investigation into the cause of the 2007 collapse of this bridge over the Mississippi River at Minneapolis. The center foreground is dominated by the dam. Water flow was temporarily curtailed to assist rescue and recovery efforts.
Arched bridges are visible to the right and left ends of the panorama. The arch bridge on the left is the Stone Arch Bridge. In large prints of this image it is possible to see the crowd of people who turned out on this evening of August 5, 2007, to try, mostly in vain, to get a good view of the collapsed bridge.
